Optimizing and Saving images
This Tutorial is a brief explanation on the subject of Optimization, to get you up and running in ImageReady quickly.
1.) Open an image of your choice in ImageReady. Click on the 2-Up or 4-Up tab. The image below shows an animation file opened in ImageReady. Notice the 2-Up tab has been selected. (This allows a second pane for viewing as we optimize the image).
To optimize an animation for the web, you select a file format and other options in the Optimize palette. (If not present, go to Window > Show Optimize).
2.) Use this palette in combination with the 2-Up or 4-Up tab to view how your image looks with different optimization settings. To adjust the various panes, simply click the image to be adjusted and adjust the settings in the Optimize Palette. (important information such as file size and load times are displayed below the images).
3.) When you have adjusted your image or images (in the case of an animation) go to File > Save Optimize As..., name the file and place it in the directory of your choice.
This method allows the user to compare various optimizing settings prior to saving work. Trick here is to obtain the smallest file size with an image quality you are willing to live with. Things to consider when working with the two most popular file types:
GIF's -
· Animations can only be saved as GIF
· Allows for transparency
· Generally, but not always used for images with solid area's of color, line art, or work with type.
JPEG's -
· Generally used for photographs and continuous-toned images.
